The Art Institute of California-San Francisco, established in 1997, provides a career-based curriculum with areas of study in fashion, media arts and design. In 2009, the institute added the International Culinary School to its program offerings, which includes a full-service restaurant operated by students enrolled in culinary studies. Accelerated online courses are also available for students at the Art Institute of California-San Francisco in conjunction with the Art Institute-Pittsburgh campus.

With an average yearly enrollment of 1,600, The Art Institute of California-San Francisco is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. As of 2007, approximately 91 percent of graduates were employed within six months of graduation. Students completing the Interior Design program had the highest employment rate at 94.7 percent and earned an average salary of $36,728.
